Kulning is a vocal technique, traditionally used in Sweden and Norway for calling cattle. It was practised primarily by women and the calls, with a high sound level and at a high pitch, carried very far. This article shows an analysis of how far the partial tones in some kulningar can reach compared to some folksongs. Also some spectra from cattle calls are looked at, which were recorded at a competition in cow calling in Finland. These calls prove to use a technique different from kulning.
